some people swear by this , others do not , the ERG valve is not required under UK law and I think of it as an appendix , not needed and bloody painful when it goes wrong . on most of the bikes its bolted to the frame at the front of the fuel tank at the right lower the valve has 3 connections 1: pipe to the engine 2: pipe running to top of carb manifold 3: pipe running to air box removal is simple , remove your seat and tank , unbolt the erg from the frame and the connection to the engine cylinder , and unclip the two long pipes that run down your bikes frame a blanking kit is available from CMPO , however you can make a plate up in a few mins the two pipes still on your frame , the thin one sucks air from your carb , a 6mm bolt placed in the end , then folded back and cable tied will stop any air entering your carb , the larger dia pipe ,can likewise just be blanked off this is the blanking plate fitted on my bike (home made) and on my bike (as the carb/manifold were off) O sealed the airpipe using epoxy after doing this mod , you should be able to fine tune your carb , with a hot engine raise the tickovera bit then using a small screwdriver bit (as per picci) slowly turn the adjuster screw on the underneath of the carb , (outward ) untill your revs peak , then lower your tickover , you should then have a clean running engine you can now move your horn as well!! any questions , please ask if you like this thread , press "home" (at the top)or goto www.sinnishmc.co.uk and join the forum and contribute

Hi Alan, thanks for the useful guide, my new HC 125 is arriving next week and I'm interested in this mod, however I've got no mechanical knowledge, is it possible to use the blanking plate only without having to take anything off?
I think I'd need photos to be able to do the full job
Thanks

if your new bike is the carb type (not fuel injection , you can just remove the valve from the engine/ frame and simply blank the thin hose running to the carb with a 6mm bolt and fold over and cable tie back , I would advise running the bike and having its first service with a dealer to retain warrenty , then do the job afterwards (1000km = about 700 miles)
edit , a clever person could add the blanking plate UNDER the erg valve , , and simply blank off the thin air hose ,
