I noticed that I was getting play where the rather cheap/nasty brake rod was simply bent at 90 deg , then pushed thru the brake lever , 6mm rose joint solved this std rod rod cut and a 6mm die run down it and finally , fitted on the bike rose joints (6mm) can be bought on the likes of ebay for about £2.50

You got to have a Tap and Die set for that though don’t you?
A half decent set starts at about 10 or 15 quid from Amazon or Ebay or even Ha*****s
Cut off the offender, then put a thread on it. Not so difficult if you have a vice, hacksaw and a steady hand. A 20 minute job mate. Sorted for under £20.
Local garage = lots more and a day off road......

alas if you wish not to pay garage charges , then you will need tools
no taps were used in the making of it , just a single 6mm die
